I Built a Massive 9-Foot Custom Desk From White Pine, Plywood and Melamine

Project Summary

I built a custom 9 foot by 3 foot desktop using thin layers of white pine over a 1.5-inch plywood body, then finished it with walnut stain and polyurethane for a deep, glossy wood look.

For the base, I built three separate cabinet sections out of melamine:

12 inches wide
19 inches wide
28 inches wide

Each cabinet section is 34 inches deep.

I also experimented with different cabinet face frame designs, using striped drawer fronts and a two-color finish to give the desk a custom built-in look.

This project combines:
